Reserve services is designed to provide students a central place to access course materials. Reserve offers materials in two formats, traditional (printed) and electronic format (online). Traditional materials can be checked out for a limited amount of time, at the Circulation and Reserve desk. Electronic course material is available online, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.  You can search for both types of reserve material via the library's web site.

Materials placed on traditional reserve can be professor owned books, library owned books, sample exams & quizzes, homework solutions, class readings & etc. Like traditional reserves, electronic reserves can also post selected chapter readings, articles, solutions, exams & quizzes. In addition, electronic reserves can add links to Internet resources related to the course, class presentation files for your lectures like Microsoft Powerpoint, graphic or picture files, or even executable files for software that you might like students to download and run for the class.

Access to all digital files and web links to your course pages will be restricted to matriculated students in your class to ensure that RIT complies with the fair use guidelines of the U.S. Copyright Law. Students in your class will be required to enter their RIT username and password to view electronic course reserves. However, if you want your materials to be open access so that the public or the entire RIT community is able to access your material without a username and password, please indicate to us in writing (E-mail is acceptable) that you hold the copyright for all material or you have obtained permission to use material for which you do not hold the copyright. Please provide us with documents showing permission from the copyright holder (e-mail is acceptable). Be careful not to overlook copyrighted material like digital images you might have borrowed and inserted on your coursepage.
