Appianus, Romana historia de bellis civilibus, (Venice, 1477)For ten years (1476-1486), the Augsburg printer Erhard Ratdolt worked in Venice where some of his most beautiful books were printed, including the 1477 Appianus with its remarkable woodcut title border and initials, and the 1482 edition of Euclid's Elements. The detail shows one of Ratdolts's initials.
